thread count
The thread count (together with the quality of cotton used) determines the quality of the finished cotton product.
The thread count refers to the number of threads in one square inch of fabric. A higher count means a softer and stronger fabric and a finer quality sheet. Counts for organic cotton usually range from 128 to 325.
Our sateen bedding has a thread count of 250. This is a very high quality weave for organic cotton.
For comparison, muslin, a simple weave, has a thread count of around 150. Percale is a closely woven cotton fabric with a thread count of 180 or higher.
natural fabric
Our natural cloth is processed with the following:
- an amylase enzyme removes the sizing (wheat starch)
- two detergents, one an anionic surfactant and the other a fast wetting agent, clean the fabric
- a defoamer controls the sudsing of the detergents
